Our first video is all about pollen, pollinators, pollen transfer, pizza, flowers and LEGO.

Sunflower - Guided Drawing

Sunflowers love the sun - and pollinators love sunflowers!

Nasturtium -Guided Drawing

These cheerful flowers mean ‘twisted nose’.

Calendula - Guided Drawing

Calendula’s are like nectar rich mini-suns and they make a wide landing pad for pollinators.

Snapdragons are on vacation this year!

Unfortunately, I was unable to source pelleted snapdragon seeds this year. I am leaving the guided drawing up because I hope to find them for next year.

Snapdragon - Guided Drawing

So many blossoms on one plant mean plenty of nectar for pollinators - just be careful of the ‘snapping dragon’.

Neighbourhood Map Art

Part of this project is to show how individual actions (planting pollinator friendly flowers) can create a big impact in our environment. The lesson included information on pollinator pathways, and how Silverspring, Evergreen, and Willowgrove neighbourhoods fit into the green spaces of our river valley, Saskatoon Natural Grasslands, the North East Swale, and the Saskatoon Forestry Farm.

When you’re walking around your neighbourhood in summer, notice how many gardens you see and how many flower patches. If you were a pollinator could you make it from one flower patch to the next? With paper and pencil crayons, make a map of the flower patches in your neighbourhood.
